Breeding business & Livery horses

Our breeding business

The great abilities and talents of our Trakehner stallions and the performance lines of our broodmares are the prerequisites for our breeding success. We use our spirit, intuition and decades of experience to ensure a continuous genetic improvement.

Our service for breeders
  • proven service by an experienced team
  • daily turning out to paddocks for all horses (broodmares as well)
  • careful stable management: 2x daily mucking out and roughage, 3x daily concentrated feed (up to 5x on request)
  • double boxes, open loose houses without extra charging (subject to availability)
  • looking after in-foal mares, expert surveillance of foaling, skilled caring for newborn foals
  • qualified rearing of colts and fillies on large and healthy pastures, in winter appropriate boarding in loose houses in groups with individual feeding and daily turn out
  • training of colts for in-hand presentation and approval
  • exercising of young mares for registration and mare performance test
  • careful starting and individual gentle schooling of young horses
  • full or part-time training (to comply with your personal schedule)
  • assistance in sales matters
  • veterinary surgeon on premises
We are happy to comply with special requests:
  • damp hay and/or shaving box
  • reliable application of medication or supplementary feed
  • rehabilitation programs (leading in-hand, lunging etc.)
  • free jumping
  • High-quality insemination - shipping of fresh and frozen semen
  • Excellent support and expert advice for breeders regarding breeding matters
  • Professional presentation of the stallions at stallion shows and competitions, thus raising their offspring's appreciation

All breeding fees are valid from January 2019
Download stud fees

Visit of the stallions is possible at any time by appointment. The stud fee is due at the latest with the first insemination / coverage or the first semen shipment. It contains the costs for insemination in the stud farm. For maiden mares, mares without foals as well as for mares after a not normal birth, a swab sample is strongly recommended. Delivery and collection of the mares as well as insemination as well as veterinary examinations are also possible outside of business hours by arrangement, thus also in the evening or at the weekend.

Board prices:

  • Mares with foals: 16 € / day
  • without a foal: 14 € / day

Sperm order weekdays to 11 o’clock, Saturday to 10 o’clock. Sperm delivery overnight daily and from Saturday to Sunday. Shipping will be charged separately. Insemination with third-party stallions possible (also frozen semen). Reduction of the breeding fee up to 50% in the upcoming season for mares who did not conceive or not get a live foal.

Free re-covering in the following mating season for mares, the first time after the 1.7. covered / inseminated and not conceive.

Livery horses

Success and the welfare of the horse have always been our main priorities. Our extensive and well-equipped stud offers a magnificent home not only to our own horses – livery horses are welcome as well. Be it broodmares, riding horses, youngsters or oldies – at Gestüt Hörstein they will find everything they could wish for: a balanced and individual diet, reliable veterinary care and enough room to move about whilst being well looked after.
Our well-coordinated team will make sure that your horse won’t lack anything!
